Even though the VPC-FH1 is a full high-definition video camera, it can shoot realistic 8-megapixel photos that are just as good as those captured by a dedicated digital camera. Full HD video and high-res photos can be captured without the need to flick a mode switch. What’s more, the FH1 offers a real-time interpolation mode that lets you record images at a resolution equivalent to 12 megapixels*
* The camera utilizes a pixel-interpolation filter that converts 8-megapixel images loaded from the image sensor into the recorded equivalent of 12 megapixels.

The VPC-FH1 is able to detect your subjects’ faces instantly. Even if the faces move, the FH1 can follow them and adjust the focus and exposure to match your central subject. The Face Chaser function has been developed so that it can even follow faces from a side-on angle.
Note: Depending on the subject and shooting conditions, face detection may not operate as expected.

The FH1 can shoot and combine two photo images that have different exposure levels. This way you can avoid overexposure of bright areas and underexposure of dark areas, and enjoy smooth gradations and clear images.

The FH1 features a video image stabilizer that works, even during zooming, to prevent blurring of images due to shaky hands. For photos, the VPC-FH1 features an additional stabilizer that can compensate for rotational camera jiggle and a shaking subject. This kind of image stabilization is impossible to achieve with conventional optical image stabilizers.
Note: The stabilizer may not compensate for extreme camera shake or for shaking that occurs at slow shutter speeds.
