Notes Regarding Waterproof Functioning
Although this camera is waterproof as defined by the JIS Protection Grade 8 standards, warranty coverage does not include any malfunctions or problems caused by failure to heed the following precautions:
Precautions Before Use
• When you close the battery/card compartment cover, ensure that no extraneous materials (such as sand, hair, or dust) are lodged between the sealed sections. Ensure that the compartment cover is closed securely.
• If the battery/card compartment cover is incorrectly closed, water can enter the compartment.
• Beware that optional products may not be waterproof.
Precautions for Underwater Use
• The waterproof properties of the camera apply to fresh water and saltwater only; they do not apply to cleaning substances, chemicals, or water from spas, etc. Any such liquids should be wiped off immediately.
• Do not immerse in water at a depth greater than 1.5 m (5 ft).
• Do not subject the camera to highly pressurized water.
• Do not immerse in water for longer than 60 minutes. After 60 minutes of use in water, allow the camera to dry for at least 10 minutes.
• Do not immerse in water warmer than 40°C (104°F).
• Do not open or close the battery/card compartment cover when the camera is wet or underwater.
• Do not open or close the battery/card compartment cover with wet hands.
• Do not open the battery/card compartment cover next to water or a pool.
• The camera is not dust-proof.
• Do not bump or knock the camera underwater, otherwise the battery/card compartment cover may open.
Precautions for Storage and Care
•Do not leave the camera unwashed after it has been immersed in salt water or if salt water is adhering to it. Otherwise the camera’s metallic plated parts may become corroded or tarnished and the camera’s waterproof functioning may be affected.
• After the camera has been used in water, wash it in fresh water only. Do not use any soaps or detergents, as these may affect the camera’s waterproof functioning.
• After washing the camera, take care to completely drain it, and use a dry cloth to wipe off any drops of water adhering to it.
• Do not leave the camera in a location where the temperature is under 0°C (32°F) or above 40°C (104°F). Doing so may have an adverse effect on the camera’s waterproof functioning.
• Waterproof seals are used in this camera. We recommend that they be replaced every year.
Other Precautions
• Do not bump or knock the camera at any time. If the battery/card compartment cover or the camera itself is bent or damaged, the camera’s waterproof functioning may be compromised.
