(SANYO) announces that it is further expanding its highly acclaimed ‘eneloop universe’, a product series emphasizing a lifestyle valuing reusing resources, with stylish and trendy new products to be released this fall: the ‘eneloop portable solar’, a handy ready-to-use solar power generator, and the rechargeable ‘eneloop neck warmer’ from the ‘eneloop warmer series’. Last fall’s hits, the ‘eneloop soft warmer’ and the ‘eneloop kairo’, have also been updated and will be sold as the 2009 version. Products and Main Features

[Portable solar: eneloop portable solar]
1. Equipped with SANYO’s patented, highly efficient 'HIT solar cell*2', the portable solar device is ready to generate power from the sun anywhere

Equipped with the highly efficient 'HIT solar cell*2', installed as solar modules or panels on roofs worldwide, ‘eneloop portable solar’ provides 100% clean solar energy as the source of power for a number of mobile devices.
Being compact, it is easy to carry, enabling solar power generation anywhere and anytime. With the provided hook, ‘eneloop portable solar’ can easily be attached to a window pane*3. With two types to choose from, ‘eneloop portable solar’ can meet specific charging needs, offering both a single HIT solar panel type for simple charging needs and a twin HIT solar panel type with higher power generation capacity to provide more power when needed.






*2 HIT (Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin-layer): Heterojunction is the interface between amorphous and crystalline structures. Intrinsic is also known as an i-type semiconductor and Thin-layer is a thin film. SANYO was the first in the world to sell this type starting in 1997.

2. Capture and store solar energy in the ‘eneloop mobile booster’, a portable battery capable of recharging portable devices on the go

To capture the energy converted from sunlight, the ‘eneloop portable solar’ comes with an ‘eneloop mobile booster’ (KBC-L3A) which stores the energy to an internal lithium-ion battery via a USB power port. Once charged, the energy stored can be used to charge cell phones, portable gaming devices, as well as audio devices from its outgoing USB power ports. By keeping the ‘eneloop mobile booster’ charged from the clean power provided by the sun, power can be provided to USB-powered portable devices on a daily basis, or in times of emergency.
After approximately one hour of generating solar power under fair-weather conditions, the twin version of the ‘eneloop portable solar’ (SSL-SBWL3AS) can charge a USB-charge enabled cell phone enough to continuously talk for approx. 40 minutes*4, for the single panel version of the ‘eneloop portable solar’, the same amount of generating time yields approximately 20 minutes of talk time on the cell phone, perfect for emergency or daily talking conditions.

*4 The continuous talk time has been calculated by using a cell phone model which equipped with a 800mA battery and can normally be used for approx. 220 minutes. It may vary considerably depending on the season, the amount of daylight, the remaining battery level, and the cell phone model.
*5 Charging time varies depending on the remaining battery level and surrounding temperature. The solar charging time indicated for the ‘portable solar set’ is only a reference, assuming that KBC-L3A is charged, from empty to full, on a sunny day. 3. Fitted with handy mesh pocket to keep portable devices near

Providing enough room to carry a mobile device such as a cell phone, portable gaming device or an audio device, the ‘eneloop portable solar’ comes with a mesh pocket attached to the back of the panel body.

‘eneloop warmer series’ [Rechargeable neck warmer: eneloop neck warmer]
1. While out and about, keep necks warm using the ‘eneloop neck warmer’

Running on a rechargeable battery to allow portability, the ‘eneloop neck warmer’ is ideal for winter sports, such as skiing, as well as for commuting by bicycle or by motorcycle. To keep the neck warm, the warmer has a heating section which snugly wraps around the neck. One-size-fits-all design permits the outer cover to suit both men and women, and with its size-adjusting belt, the ‘eneloop neck warmer’ can be adjusted to accommodate just about any neck size. The thermal section and the power supply unit are removable so that the outer cover can be easily hand-washed.

2. ‘Sheet heater’ with temperature control functionality

The heating section employs a strap-shaped ‘sheet heater’ made of carbon and a special type of resin. To keep the temperature warm and safe, the heater uses PTC functionality*7 (a self-regulating constant temperature heating element). This PTC function prevents overheating and ensures that the right temperature is maintained. The heater is thin, lightweight and has very flexible properties to snugly wrap around the neck.

3. Powered by an ‘eneloop mobile booster’, a portable power solution to charge mobile devices

As with the ‘eneloop portable solar’, the ‘eneloop mobile booster (KBC-L3A)’ is used for supplying power to the ‘eneloop neck warmer’. Featuring a built-in, high-capacity lithium-ion battery, the ‘eneloop mobile booster’ is both small and lightweight, enabling it to be used with the ‘eneloop neck warmer’ without being heavy enough to be noticed. When not in use in the neck warmer, the ‘eneloop mobile booster’ can also be used to charge USB-power compatible mobile devices such as a cell phone, portable gaming device or audio device whenever necessary. Chargeable from a PC’s USB port or from AC power via the dedicated AC adapter, the ‘eneloop mobile booster (KBC-L3A)’ uses AC100 - 240V, suitable for worldwide use.

- The ‘eneloop mobile booster (KBC-L3A)’ used with the ‘eneloop portable solar’ or the ‘eneloop neck warmer’ is also available for separate purchase. An unbundled, updated version of the ‘eneloop mobile booster (product No. KBC-L3AS) will be available in the market from September 1, 2009.

Overview

SANYO, to propose creating a new "lifestyle that values reusing and recycling" contrary to the popular "use and throw away" lifestyle, developed ‘eneloop’, originally an AA-sized Nickel-metal Hydride (NiMH) rechargeable battery released in November 2005. The name ‘eneloop’ is based on the concept of "looping energy" and is a combination of the two words. Since the revolutionary ‘eneloop’ batteries were launched, SANYO has further designed and developed ‘eneloop’ battery cells, such as the AAA-, C- and D-sizes as well as the ‘universal charger’ to charge the various sizes they come in to respond to popular demand. Combining the benefits or rechargeable batteries (economical and environmental, rechargeable up to 1,000 times, fully recyclable) with those of dry cell batteries (precharged, low self-discharge) the ‘eneloop’ batteries have received and continue to receive high market acclaim. A cumulative total of more than 90 million ‘eneloop’ batteries have been shipped worldwide (as of July 31, 2009) since the initial release in 2005.
Based on the lifestyle of reusing that ‘eneloop’ proposes, SANYO has created an entire universe of products, known as the ‘eneloop universe’.  Starting from 2006, SANYO released the ‘eneloop solar charger’, a charger using a solar cell capable of charging AA/AAA ‘eneloop’ battery cells with 100% renewable sunlight energy; a rechargeable hand warmer was also launched that could be turned off and on at will, as well as used and reused repeatedly known as the ‘eneloop kairo’.
In 2007, the ‘eneloop universe’ product line-up further expanded to include the rechargeable portable warmer, ‘eneloop anka’, and the ‘eneloop mobile booster’, a portable power source that provided power to personal mobile devices via a USB power port from its internal, rechargeable lithium-ion battery.
In 2008, the series grew in February to include a portable air purification device equipped with the ‘virus washer’ function known as the ‘eneloop air fresher’. Following this product, September 2008 also saw the addition of the ‘eneloop soft warmer’, a portable, small electric blanket using rechargeable battery technology to power it while away from power sources, the solar-powered ‘eneloop solar light’, a combination LED flashlight and LED ambient lamp that could harness the power of the sun, perfect for emergency or outdoor situations. In December, SANYO released the ‘eneloop bike’, an electric hybrid bicycle equipped with regenerative charging function to harness and utilize electricity generated while riding.
Earlier this year, in June 2009, the ‘eneloop lamp’ was added to the ‘eneloop universe’. The ‘eneloop lamp’ is a stylish interior light that doubles as a portable LED flashlight.
With these various applications of a simple battery, SANYO is able to play on its strengths in portable power technology while offering the support necessary to encourage lifestyles that value reusing and recycling.
