SANYO to Display at the Hokkaido Toyako Summit ‘Zero Emission House’ and ‘Green IT Pavilion’

Displaying the highly environmental ‘AQUA’, ‘eneloop universe’, ‘virus washer’ and ‘enegreen’

Tokyo, June 17, 2008 – SANYO Electric Co., Ltd. (SANYO) is pleased to announce its participation in the ‘Zero Emission House’ and the ‘Green IT Pavilion’, which will be held in conjunction with the Hokkaido Toyako Summit, where SANYO will be displaying products that are based on its “Think GAIA” brand vision.  The drum washer/dryer ‘AQUA’ which cuts down the amount of water needed for a washing to a bare minimum, the ‘eneloop universe’, a product group promoting a lifestyle of “reusing” resources, as well as the air purification system equipped with ‘virus washer’ technology that uses the power of water to “wash” the air, will be displayed at the ‘Zero Emission House’, and ‘enegreen Super-Showcase Refrigeration System’ which combines the ‘Consolidated Energy Saving System for Stores’ that centrally controls the showcases used in supermarkets, and uses an environment-friendly refrigerant, will be displayed at the ‘Green IT Pavilion’.

The ‘Zero Emission House’ and ‘Green IT Pavilion’ are participants-only exhibitions to be held for the leaders, NPOs and the media attending the Toyako Summit.  The ‘Zero Emission House’ is hosted by the Japanese government for the visitors of the G8 summit as a place to appeal the leading-edge environmental technology in Japan on the concept of a neo-futuristic house, in which environmental technologies developed by Japanese companies are applied to an actual home.

SANYO will continue to support Japan’s move to strengthen efforts towards achieving goals outlined in the Kyoto Protocol, and inform its stakeholders of its efforts in this regard.

AQUA

A “washer made to conserve earth’s water resources”, this drum-type washer/dryer is capable to disinfecting and deodorizing with the power of air (ozone) and is equipped with the function of purifying and recycling bath water as a vital resource, to wash clothes with a mere 7 liters of water.

‘eneloop universe products’

The eneloop universe is a product series developed on SANYO’s concept of “looping energy”.  It promotes a lifestyle of “reusing” resources with products such as the solar charger, which can recharge solar energy into eneloop, and a rechargeable kairo (hand warmer).

Air purification system equipped with the ‘virus washer’ technology

Developed under the concept of “washing the air with the power of water”, this system is equipped with the function of suppressing airborne viruses and pollen in a variety of scenes ranging from the bedside of sleeping babies to spacious rooms where the public often frequent, such as movie theaters. The air purification system displayed at the ‘Zero Emission House’ is suitable for large spaces up to 100m2, such as schools and hospital waiting rooms.

‘enegreen Super-Showcase Refrigeration System’

Developed on the concept of “supermarkets expanding the forests”, this system employs ‘R410A’ which has a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP) and a higher refrigeration capacity.  It can save as much as 46% of energy by combining in-store equipment such as air conditioning and lighting which were conventionally controlled separately, and helps to contribute to the reduction of CO2.
