"Want to tell the children who will create the future the importance of the global environment"
SANYO, the developer of the "eneloop" rechargeable battery which can be reused approximately 1,000 times, actively offers environmental education for elementary school children. Using the "Battery" ? a product that everyone is familiar with, we introduce children to a lifestyle in which "a battery is used over and over" to communicate the importance of taking care of the global environment.
[ Activity Concept ]
In November 2005, SANYO released the "eneloop" rechargeable battery which can be reused 1,000 times. Batteries are a silent force behind our convenient and affluent lifestyle. When we look around, there are innumerable items that are powered by batteries, such as remote controls, cameras, toys, and lighting equipment. Because batteries are being used in such large numbers, we want people to use batteries "Over and Over" in consideration of the global environment. SANYO, as it aims to become a "leading provider of Environment- and Energy-related products," promotes innovative manufacturing (Monozukuri) to bequeath a beautiful Earth to future generations. "eneloop" is one of the products in which SANYO's vision is embodied.
In conjunction with the birth of "eneloop" in November 2005, SANYO launched the Eco Education Program with the aim of teaching children the importance of the global environment and the importance of using things over and over. Since April 2006, SANYO employees, who have been trained as an instructor, have been offering environmental classes to elementary school children all over Japan.
In its effort to develop worldwide education activities for the children who will create the future, SANYO has been expanding the Eco Education Program overseas since 2007.

Using the "Battery," children will learn to practice
3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) and think about various global environmental problems.
- 1. Situation of actual environmental problems
- The dark side of our convenient and affluent lifestyle is that environmental problems are becoming increasingly more serious, such as global warming, depletion of resources, and increase in waste. Through a quiz format, students learn facts about these environmental problems.
- 2. Rethink our lifestyle from a 3R perspective

As an important first step to preserve the global environment, we must rethink our mass production/consumption/disposal oriented lifestyle and commit ourselves to practice “3R.”
Through 3R workshop, students are encouraged to make a shift from simply knowing 3R to actually doing 3R.
- 3. Rechargeable batteries which can be used over and over

Batteries support our convenient and affluent lifestyle. How many batteries do we consume in our daily life? Because a rechargeable battery can be used over and over and is recyclable once it reaches the end of its life, using rechargeable batteries is one way to practice 3R.
SANYO's environmental class emphasizes hands-on type of learning. Children will enjoy learning about the global environment and batteries through doing a quiz, doing a battery experiment, recharging batteries, and other things.
